I’ve been trying to get up to the GAP this fall but one thing or another has stopped me. This past week wasn’t the best timing for me but the weather forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday was just too good so I pulled the trigger.
Since the mornings were supposed to be cold, I took both days off work and drove up Tuesday morning. I left the house right at 8:00 AM which got me to the CROT at close to noon. It was a beautiful drive up, especially as I got in to the familiar territory of roads and scenery within 30 miles of the GAP.
The leaves hadn’t really started to turn yet which I was happy about because that would mean I wouldn’t have to contend with the “leaf lookers”. I don’t claim preferred status over them, they’re just something else that adds to traffic on my favorite roads.
I saw Ben from the store and had a good time hanging out and riding. It’s fun riding with the locals because they navigate the road so… efficiently, you know, no time wasted.
As always I met lots of cool motorcycle people that were riding there also. Boris from Augusta was there on his big Harley but I really think he needs a sportbike from the way he was talking cornering, braking, how to transfer your weight. I recommended getting on the track so he could learn the safest way. I suggested doing an introductory daywith NESBA.com which is a very good organization but he had an idea that is probably better. He wants to do a Kevin Schwantz school which I assume is similar to a Keith Code school where they can supply the bike and leathers. A perfect way for someone to get a taste of the track without a huge investment and in the correct environment for a safe and appropriate assessment of the sport. And the instruction is great. I did the Keith Code Level 1 school at Laguna Seca last year and have been able to actually apply what I learned there to help my riding.
I met a fellow sportbike rider up there that recognized me from this website which I thought was kinda neat. His name is Warren from Tennessee. A cool guy, (had the same bike I do) we rode together a little that day. Also his buddy Gary? who just got a GSXR and was honing his skills.
I don’t have pics for this post yet.

I had a blast trying to keep up with you. I’ll let you know next time I’m heading up there.
Nice meeting you too, man. Although I wouldn’t say we actually “rode together”… more like you blew my paint off! It was good to see another bike like mine for what little bit I actually saw it
Hey it was great meeting you. I did get to follow you through half a corner! Maybe next year I can keep up a little better.
